This is considered the definitive work on magic with invisible thread. If you have ever wanted to perform astounding magic where objects seem to move and float on their own this is your opportunity. Based on Jon LeClair's best-selling book "The Art of Invisible Thread," this program takes you on a candid outing where LeClair performs live for startled spectators in a restaurant. You are then taught how to perform everything. LeClair's techniques can be used at virtually anytime and in any situation -- they are the most practical methods for using invisible thread ever developed.

Routines performed and taught:

  • Whirling Card: Inspired by Bob Hummer's Whirling Card, a borrowed business card spins in mid air and flies around your body.

  • Standing Card: Based on a routine by Gaeton Bloom, a borrowed business card is balanced on it's edge on the back of your hand.

  • Erectile Bill: LeClair's version of Al Baker's popular routine where a borrowed bill is folded lengthwise and placed on a table -- it slowly begins to rise until it is standing upright.

  • Floating Bill: A borrowed bill is crumpled into a ball and placed on your palm. It slowly begins to move and float while your hands wave above, below and all around it.

  • Ring on Wand: A handling of Jamy Ian Swiss' Animated Ring on Wand where a borrowed finger ring magically moves along the length of a Plexiglas wand. As a repeat the entire sequence is performed while everything is in the spectator's hand.

  • Animated Matchbox: Amadeo's classic Animated Matchbox where a matchbox which is laying on your palm flips over and then its drawer magically and eerily opens. What makes this version special is that the matchbox is examinable before and after the routine.

  • Animated Deck: LeClair's most popular routine is a version of Al Baker's Pack That Cuts Itself, where a selected card is returned to the deck as the pack cuts itself and pushes the selection out.

  • Rising Card: A selected playing card rises out of the deck.

  • Cigarette Follies: A borrowed cigarette moves and jumps while on the table.

  • Defying Death: A spectator writes the name of someone who has died on a piece of paper which is folded and placed into a vase along with four similarly folded papers containing names of living persons. All of a sudden one of the papers starts bouncing in the vase and finally jumps out -- on it is the name of the dead person -- his spirit made it happen!

  • Also taught are the most important techniques used in invisible thread magic: how to overcome thread breakage, making your own invisible thread, quick thread set-up, practice tips, vital thread handling, and much more. You are also taught the secrets of the LeClair Animator, which makes everything on this video possible.
Comes with a free starter package of invisible thread and specially compounded flesh colored putty so you can start performing immediately after learning the techniques. Even if you never tried to use invisible thread before, this program will give you the confidence and teach you everything you need to know. This is one of the most diabolical tools available to the close-up magician. A real reputation maker.

Invisible thread Report this review

I have always wanted to do a straightforward levitation of a bill without having to worry about lighting distances and angles with spectators. Invisible thread is the solution. I can't even see it when I'm performing it! So have no worries and buy this. Plus the dvd explains a whole lot of other great practical effects. Mindblowing.

The only thing I didn't like about this (and why I buy DVD instead of VHS) is because it plays like a VHS (no fwd to next scene, menu, etc.)

I loved this video, I have it on VHS, and highly recommend it. It's about time they put this on DVD! He also gives you his suggested source of invisible thread. Very talented, 5 Thumbs Up!

I bought this years ago and did have a small problem so I called the number suggested and talked to Jon himself. He was very nice, fixed the problem quickly, offered to answer any other questions, and sent me extra supplies. I was very happy with this purchase. The "set-up" is great and the advice (use, blocking, etc.) is invaluable. I was fairly new to I.T. at the time and still feel that this video was all I ever needed. I can certainly recommend it.

I do not have the DVD but just wanna write my own experience with IT. And if you are afraid of it, buy this DVD.

In fact i had IT for over a year and was afraid of using it, just because i UNDERESTIMATED the effect it has on people.

When i performed my first routine i was amazed myself how peoples jaws were dropping. they just couldn't believe it. I was so close to them, and yet theres nothing to hide and nothing to see.

Before I bought this DVD I underestimated the impact that IT effects can have on an audience. I kept worrying about what happens if something goes wrong with the thread, but I was missing out on some powerful magic. This DVD teaches you everything you need to know to start utilizing this powerful tool without any problems. Don't make the same mistake that I did. Buy this DVD and start doing real magic.

This DVD is one of the best choices if not the best for invisible thread. Purchase this one along with the invisible thread and the wax or putty. The way Leclair explains everything is very easy to understand and his method of using the invisible thread is very good. Buy this one! Dont forget the thread and the wax or putty you will need it. BUY NOW!

I watched this one because I am a beginner with IT, I have even until now never used it before (still waiting for it to arrive). But as to the DVD: it's about an hour long and you get to learn the effects outlined in the add, fair enough. It starts with a performing-section, followed by the explanations. He even explains how to "harvest IT", so in the future I guess one didn't have to buy it anymore if one felt like doing the work (and no, he is not harvesting them from chinese caterpillars). There is nothing much too write, it's basically solid, LeClair a nice guy and don't expect someting fancy or funny during the instructional part, but this is the good thing: I compared his method to the method of the "floating dollar bill" as explained in the instructional video, and think his handling is much better. Can't write too much about it (exposure), I guess, just let me say "hook-up". I think it's so obviously superior, I'm thinking maybe it's copyrighted or someting.

All in all very convincing and the vid has sold me on the idea to give it a try, I actually didn't want to get involved with threads, just scared me, which I guess got addressed in the title of this video. LeClair uses one basic method to do all his tricks, so one does not have to learn many different concepts for different effects. It looked simple enough to roll with it. It lost one star because - and I am mainly guessing - in the meantime there are appearently more advanced props out there, reels and the like, which I can't judge due to inexperience, but it would be cool to learn how you can back off from objects and still have them floating, for example (which I know is possible). I think this vid has not exactly been recently shot.
