Acar Altinsel: Co - Founder of Penguin Magic
Today, Acar Altinsel (pronounced "ajar") is a master teacher of magic and Penguin Magic's king of computers. But to get to know this mild mannered computer engineering guru and lover of all things magical, we must start at the beginning. As a child, Acar grew up in a small town in Michigan where his mother taught English (ESL) and his father worked as a Mechanical Engineer. Little Acar played the Violin for most of his life and later toured with the orchestra while attending the University of Michigan. In his spare time he enjoyed playing midfield in soccer tournaments and today enjoys extreme snowboarding adventures in the mountains of nearby Utah and California. Like many professional magicians, Acar got the magic bug when he was four or five years old. It all started with a Fisher Price magic kit, that he still owns. As a child he searched everywhere for more magic; library's, toy stores, costume stores. New magic was hard to find, but each effect was a gem! A few months after learning the vanishing handkerchief, Acar saw a magician perform at the local high school. After the show, he drew up the courage to go back stage and show the showman the performance of his magic effect. Seeing that Acar was "born to perform", the professional magician sat with him and gave him perspective and magical advice that set Acar down the road to performance success. From the first interaction with a pro willing to give advice, Acar was instilled with a love for the power of the mentor student relationship. Today, as co-founder of Penguin Magic, Acar works hard to recreate that mentor relationship through instructional DVD's. Through these DVD's, the intimate secrets of how to become a more magical performer can be learned at the students own rate and from the comfort of their own home. From a simple silk vanish in the gravel of grade school, to co-founder of the most visited magic shop in the world, Magic has carried Acar to places that he never dreamed. |
