Penguin has a picture of the thumbtip on the demo page...so what? The real secret is the technique. Buy a TT that fits, and practice keeping it hidden for a long time before you perform for someone. Get a DVD or book to go with it. Read about TT's and you'll find stories of magicians who use bright pink TT's and magicians who've performed for other magicians who know about TT's and they still dont know how it's done.

Plus, it's just your mom? Who cares if she knows? Do you think she'll tell everyone she knows like a heckler?

Just some ideas of things to vanish to make your audience go wild:

-Some money you borrowed from them; ask them to fold a 20$ bill into a small piece, shove it into the TT, and rub and make it disappear if you want a reputation.

-A small ring; something personal, even a small necklace makes a large affect.

-I have pulled off resurrecting a fly inside one. You secretly have it in there while you do a card trick and wake the fly from its coma in the TT. Once your done the card trick, make up some story about how you used to be able to make things appear out of thin air, and sometimes living creatures. Put the TT in your hand with the buzzing fly inside, turn your hand upside down, and let it fly out and watch your audience freak.
