What age do you guys think is approporiate to start doing street magic? If any of you do, what age did you start at?

First you must be an adult, busking is too risky for kids. I started at 58 yrs old.

I started doing walk around magic in High School, then for lunch we were able to go off campus. So I'd stop a couple of people along the way of me getting lunch, and did some pretty basic illusions back then... I think I was maybe 15 or 16 at the time, my memory is bad haha. :)

So my suggestion is, do Street Magic when you feel 110% positive about your performance and confidence is also another major key. Once you got those down, I don't see there really being an age limit for street magic, or just magic in general... Have fun! :D

I started younger then both Paddy and DaveV, but I don't do it nearly as often as they do. And I probably do it in a safer area of the country then they do. My biggest worry is punk kids.

I started slowly at 17. I should have waited a longer though. I did it a little more when I was 18. Still not too much though. However, when ever I go out busking, I have people watching my back. And I'm a pretty big guy (but that doesn't mean I don't get crap from people). Not too long ago I about got stabbed by a punk kid.

The older the better. I'm 19 now, and I still don't do it too much. This summer I will do it a little more, but not too much still.

Just remember, it can be quite dangerous. In some cases, it can be very dangerous. Before you even think about it, go out and read up on the subject.

I have done magic on the street. But have yet to start busking.
I plan on learning more about the aspects of it before I go out.

Some of the people I have learned from on the subject- Dave, Paddy, Don.

Plus I still need to get down a great cups and balls routine and start perfecting my 3 shell game.

Other than that, I would be good to go.

Be careful with the 3 shell game. The shell game is a con game where people get others to bet on where the pea is, much like 3 card monte where you have to guess where the odd card is. Because of this history you can get arrested VERY EASILY if a cop thinks you are playing for money.

The only time I do the 3 card monte or the shell game is when I am either doing a paid festival or giving a lecture.

I know all that, but thanks.
Dave invited me to the Scoundrels forum and I joined just for that con.
I know how it works, and can play a basic game. But it needs some work.
Thus, I am getting Whits and Sheets new dvd on the con.

Also, unlike most people here I have researched local laws, spoken to cops, and the sheriff.

But again, thanks for the info and warning, nice to know people have your back. 8)

I am 15, and I like to go downtown and do magic for random people. They enjoy it. I don't believe there is a strict age limit on "blaine style" street magic, but I would DEFINITELY say there is a limit on busking.

Well since i started this topic i have had a fair bit more experience, and i dont think you would have to be 50 years old to start busking, anyway thanks for the feedback, and i love recap too it gets more laughs than anything.
