Need a license to perform street magic ?

Necro-bump, I know, but I am in this exact same situation. This post is from 2007, it's now 2010, obviously, do the same rules still apply? I plan on busking small-time at Fanny Hall, but not on the big venue's like how they have auditions and whatnot for the prime space.

I tried emailing them and I haven't got any answer. Anyone know any info off the top of their head here?

The rules to always check local laws and regulations still apply. If emailing doesnt work, call them or better yet go there in person. They cant put you on eternal hold that way and shows that you're serious.

p.s. this is a worthy bump, as you had an honest question.

The old busker's rule is "it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission." Those of us that travel with our shows know this. When I am on the road, even for vacation, I will look for a good pitch and set up and start my sidewalk show. Yes on more than one occasion I have been told it is illegal. When that happens I explain that I am passing thru and didn't know the local rules, then pack up and quit. Never been really harassed by cops we've always been polite to each other and so I've never been arrested. They usually run my ID for "wants and warrants" and that's it.
