After 2+ years if on/off interest in magic, and recently reading a post by " kconnors ", or rather the Link he posted ( http://antinomymagic.com/honestliar_print.htm ), I'm feeling much more confidant, because all I was ever doing was those quick 30 second tricks, that require little to no interaction or communication from the audience.

I was wondering, for a while, why so many good tricks weren't getting very good reactions, but things I thought were simple/childish (like sponge balls [my opinion of their childishness has GREATLY changed] ) were getting amazing reactions. That article cleared up a lot for me... I need routines, and I need to get the audience involved.

With all this being said, I wanted to get some help with my routines :) what orders might work best, what routines get better reactions than others, and possibly a psychological perspective on the whole mix... Here's my idea so far;

Start with a few Coin Tricks ( 3fly, and progress through tricks using one less coin each time)

Do a couple of Rubber Band tricks (Crazy Man's Handcuffs and Stairway [by Marcus Eddie { as gazzo's "The Art of Krowd Keeping" suggests; get the visual/idea of exchanging money in the audience's head } ] )

Move onto cards... Although I'm having a difficult time with the routines here... I want to do something like Eric Jones' "Ambitious" (much like Card-to-Mouth, but a little more sanitary if you hand out the card), but if I build up an audience, I'm not sure how well this would work... Would I pick on one spectator and keep the rest in tune (maybe a card-to-forehead instead of card-to-shirt-pocket for comedy), or change up this idea entirely?

And then I need help with a finale... I would like to be able to do this standing up, without need of table (so Cups and Balls is sadly out of the question). I am trying to get into Hypnosis as well (DVDs on their way), so would this be a good ending? Or would the focus on the Hypnotized individual (in order to hypnotize them) loose other's attention?

Any and ALL input would be greatly appreciated, I honestly do not want to flake out of magic again, I love entertaining others, and I'm trying to do it right this time around.

Not only would ideas on tricks and the whole Zen of Busking be appreciated, but any reference material would be amazing as well :)

Thank you for you're time,
~TJ

P.S. I apologize for all the parenthesis, and the Inception-like parenthesis.

I too use to think that tricks like spongeballs and change bag were childish and silly, but then realized, so many other magicians do those tricks. For street, I would say fiber optics is great, it is one of those rare, good tricks that does get great reactions.

Wow, that was my first time watching something for Rope Magic... That's REALLY impressive... If only Penguinmagic wasn't sold out :/ it'd also give me more reason to carry around my E-Ring!
