Have anyone been caught or just frowned upon when doing random tricks in random places? I was just wondering because it would suck to get yelled at because you were just trying to entertain someone. I would seem some businesses would get mad at you for drawing a crowd in a mall or using their space to show some guy a card blistered in your fingers. Where should I NOT perform and what's all this about a liscence and such for magic :?:

Strolling magic (i.e close-up magic. the kind you would classify David Blaine under) - legal, of course. Nothing wrong with this, all you are doing is walking around showing some stuff.

Street magic - collecting crowds around you, setting up a table and all your props along the street - you need a license for this. It's kinda like busking.

I THINK you apply to the city board or something. Not quite sure about this. I beleive there was a previous thread that discussed this issue.

Never have gotten into trouble, but have been asked to leave. Some people find magic frightening because they are scared of "Trickery". They think that deception is evil and get fairly nervous about it. Just try doing magic around an Indonesian group. They will want to stone you!!! Other than that....most people enjoy the entertainment and just want to try to figure it out. I have been threatened before because I won't reveal secrets, and that has upset some, but hey, that is the price to pay for magic! Its fun, and your name begins to flow around town. That is what you want! Everywhere I go now, people recognize me as the "Guy that oes magic", or the first question i hear "Hey, got any cards on ya?" ITs cool.....There is nothing illegal about showing your talents. ...

Different states have different Busking laws. In Illinois, for example, all street performances are illegal without a license. I'm sure cops aren't going to crack down on anybody, unless a crowd is causing a problem. But you need to check your own state. In IL the license is 50 or 75 bucks, and the fine is like 25... I think. So I'll take my chances

its not illegal, but it could be considered loitering, which, in some places, is illegal.
