I'm also wondering, if you do film people, is it illegal if you reporduce the film and give it out? I heard Candid Camera got in trouble from people that were filmed for their show. :?:

If you film them in a public place, you don't have to worry about getting permission or not. The laws about invasion of privacy don't cover public places because people can't have the expectation of privacy there. Just make sure the place you are filming in is public. Asking permission, however, is advisable since it shows a bit more respect to the spectater which will make you look that much better :)

Seems to me if you've gatherd that large a crowd, they are obviously enjoying it so the cop who broke it up would be the one disturbing the peace.

In my town, Grand Rapids, Michigan, the last that I heard, busking was illegal unless you get permission of the Downtown Management Authority. It became illegal when the arts council viewed busking as a threat to it's arts festival - busking drew better crowds than the stages. lol Grand Rapids Festival is pretty lame!!!

I don't think anyone is going to mind if you don't cause a problem or accept tips. But even the sanctioned busking usually gets lousy hats, because it's restricted to a certain part of downtown and people aren't accustom to buskers. The visiting buskers don't come back. lol

I've never been asked to leave because I was showing someone magic tricks. I was however kicked out of the New York New York casino in Las Vegas because I was miming inside the casino in full mime make-up. They didn't seem to care really that I was performing in there. It was mostly that I had make-up on and they couldn't identify me if I were to rob the place. I would say as long as you dont ask people for money you will be fine. Unless you have a permit, then ask away. And, if they ask you to leave, they ask you to leave. No big deal. Just politely leave and don't cause them any grief and everything should be fine.

That's almost right, you can film anything you want in public, but when you want to air it on TV or make a video its another thing. You need permission in writting if you want to air that material. (assuming you have permission to air the routine from the creator as well)

Never perform for people on a sidewalk with a red curb. Trust me, the consequences aren't worth it...

It depends on where you are. The laws and rules vary.
