I've already thought up a way to improve it. Look up the "card to matchbox" illusion. The effect would go something like this:
The magician hands the spectator, and crumples up the deck just like in the video, saying that we won't need the deck for the rest of this trick, but that we will, however, need a matchbox. He opens his hand, and the crumpled deck has turned into a matchbox. He has the viewer look at the card, then places it into a ceramic/glass container, lights a match, and burns the card. He then opens the drawer of the matchbox, pulling out the card, folded, but otherwise unmarred.
