One thing for sure is to have more than one DL technique at you disposal because there are certain times (depending on the routine/effect) that a change in technique is required. For instance look at Brother John Hamman's Acey Deucey in Kaufman's book "Secrets of Brother John Hamman"...there is no better DL suited for this particular effect than the one Bro John teaches.
For me a strike/hit is used the most but a Stuart Gordon Turnover comes in handy at times and I recommend learning it. I also use a variant (of my own creation) of the Derek Dingle DL.
