I had a mentor 13 years ago when i was a just a little chitlin and he did magic, and thats how I got into it. He did this force which is shown on the video below, and a few days later he told me the force.
I then decided to modify it a bit and its shown in the video.
Only problem is I never seen another magician ever do this force... ever.
So I had 2 questions.
1. Whats the name of it, if there is one?
2. Is it frowned upon, do magicians not like to or try to stray away from a force that looks like this, and is that why I don't see any magicians use it?

It was an out of the wrapper deck and needed some tear and wear, but the trick is still shown nicely.

Ive never had a problem with it when I wanted a fast force, and nobody has ever caught me. I don't do this force around a crowd though, its not angle friendly.

Personally i think it looks very unnatural, also theirs plenty of forces that force the bottom cards.

One problem with forces and also color changes is that people come up with all these different names for the same move.

Maybe someone else will know the exact name for it; though i guess technically it'd just be a bottom force( though its not exactly off the bottom its close enough)

I've never seen it before either, and I have to agree it looks very unnatural.

Too many other great forces. Use something that doesn't look so terrible.

There are a few different versions of the Hofinzer(sp?) force out there. Some of them force the bottom card, others force the 4th or 5th card from the top. Anyways, what you are doing there is essentially a longitudinal Hofinzer. Most people don't use it in that way because....well people don't naturally spread the deck longitudinally. So while the force works fine there is already a well known force out there which suits most people better.

I remember that in the Royal Road there is a description of a similair force, but instead of running through the cards like in the video you spread them and let the spectator touch one. You might find the name there.

I can't recall where I have seen it but I used to perform it...I may have just taught it to myself...but I agree, it does look unnatural so I never use it anymore.

Not and expert on magic, but I do know scrutiny. That move wouldn't pass. First, the deck it taken completely out the picture at one time. With that in mind, it could have been replaced with a deck with all queens/spades and 6 of diamonds. And the shift moves cause the eye to follow and raise an eyebrow. Others have just said it looked "unnatural" I said the same just worded it differently.
