today in an un-named magic shop, I saw a edward marlo video called "seconds, middles, and bottoms" or something like that.
it should be what you are looking for

I have "The Expert at the Card Table" by SW Erdnase. I did some background checking on him and was surprised to discover that his real name is ES Andrews (SW Erdnase backwards) and that he was quite the con artist. I have heard rumor that the sleights demonstrated in this book aren't the best out there and can be seen by spectators when being performed. I also heard they weren't the ones he ever used.

Any truths to this?

What you heard doesn't ring true. Much of modern card magic is based on Erndase as a foundation. If you look at virtually any of the recent masters of card conjuring (like Vernon, Jennings, Giobbi, Hugard, Tamariz, etc.) they all refer to Erdnase and most have developed tricks based on Ernase's work. Even Jay Sankey uses the Erdnase Color Change extensively. I never knew that his name was Andrews spelled backwards. Several (if not all) of the writers of early card sleight of hand were absolute card cheats!

A great thread on this subject exists on another forum. There is a great mystery to who wrote this book, and even today no one really knows.

It seems that the "Erdnase Color Chage" was really a move of Houdini's, believe it or not(see Card College by Giobbi).

John Carney's handling of this color change is explained in his classic book Carneycopia, and trust me, he brings this sleight plenty of new life!!! I use his handling now!!!

Darwin Ortiz, one of magics most important writers and performers, has written what is called the Annotated Erdnase, a book that I feel is very important for all serious card workers to aquire in time.

For most magicians, modern card work starts with the Erdnase book.
