I picked the Evan's effect up for an extremely cheap price. There are no sleights involved. Gimmicks... definitely, but you finish clean in the end.
You also need something else (luckily I have one that I use quite often) that is not mentioned in the advertisement. You may also have the 'something else' and STILL not be able to use it... depending. If you don't have one it will probably cost you over 10.00 to purchase a decent one. I can't really say much more or exactly what it is, as it would be considered exposure.
It's actually a pretty good effect, but must be done very, very smoothly with a very good patter and some misdirection. It does get some very good reactions and the cards can be examined at the end.
Between the two, I'd recommend Skinner's over Evan's, even though the cards can't be examined. With a little more handling you can get to where the spec(s) can examine the 'cards'.
