control to top

i was wondering what your favorite 'control to top' method was. i'm just starting out (about 3 month on/off of card conjouring) and i need a new way to get a control to the top. i know the break cut (if that's what you call it), hindu control shuffle, and the in-jog overhand. they get kinda repetative in my routine and i'd like to be able to do some wicked control to top moves (ie "Fruit Loops" trick in Blaine's first special) but to use as a utility, not a trick in itself. any suggestions/recommended reading? thanks.

well, I do the overhand control, hindu control and double undercut. Just use the easiest for you. No need to use something complex when there is a simple way to accomplish the same thing.

I don't mean to be rude, but I want to be able to do something complex. I want a more fluid/convincing show/routine. There are some rather observant people that can catch on, but can also be thrown off like nothing with a quick change up. I just like to have that versatility... so.. any other controls that you think I should check out?

you can use a classic pass riffle pass. there are so many ways. i recommend getting royal road to card magic. it is very very good for beginning magicians.

i use the break cut a lot, and then once the card is on top, i riffle shuffle them, making sure of course that the top card lands last

nobody has EVER figured that out yet

when you say break cut, do you mean double undercut?

Art of Astonishment shows the "Flip Flop Plop". It is great for getting the card to the top.

BTW, the "Fruit Loops" trick is called the Ambitious Card.

Hmm. A pass?

An invisible pass is the best way to get a card to the top of the deck. Period.

I prefer the swing swivel undercut that Oz uses in a lot of the demos. Looks impressive, but not too fancy.

for dat fruit loops thingy in the DB special, did he do a pass at one point? the part b4 he did the braue pop-up card

No, just learn the "Ambitious Card Routine", mine uses a pass, Blaine's on his special does not.

He is not controling the card like you are suggesting!!!

I don't know how much I can tell you on this thread so I'll stop. What you see Blaine do is pretty much Ammar's routine from ETMCM's Volume 2.

The thing Blaine does before he does the Braue Pop-up move is called the James/Ellis Loading Move. Daryl's video on the Ambitious Card has it.

My favorite pass right now is the Daley handling of the Hermann turnover pass. This pass is described in book called "Stars of Magic". Also it is demonstrated by Ken Krenzel, one of the true pass masters, on his video, which is only on VHS, called "The Pass". It often sells for less then $20.

What a great control, and so clean looking!!!!!
