Hey everyone....Can anyone teach me a good way to do the one handed fan? Either I'm doing it wrong, or I just don't have the coordination or somethin...cuz I can't get it down! Every time I try, they either fall everywhere or if I do actually get a fan, they're spaced about 2in apart in some spots and clumped together in other spots....anyone wanna help??

Try with a new pack of cards. If the cards are new, try with a worn pack. See what you like better. Also adjust the pressure you're putting on the cards.

thanx roatc......yeah i tried with a new deck, and frankly they slipped a little too much....my older deck was a little better, maybe i just need to spend 8 hrs a day practicing

hey just play with the amount of pressure your putting on the deck, and with the newness of the cards they should just glide nicely.

Yeah, i find it easier with a new pack.

jeff mecbride ( no idea if i spelled it right) has a good demonstration of how to do it on one of his videos - sorry i forgot the name.

if you do it with your right hand - start the fan with your thumb as low as you can and to the left.

one more thing - i saw lee usher do a TRUE one handed fan with the whole deck, in the end it looks like a pressure fan. i worked on it for hours but could not do it - any tips?

Are you trying the one handed fan with a full deck? I can't do a one handed fan with a full deck either. On the Jeff McBride video, he uses half the deck. I can do it with half the deck. Are you learning it from a book or tape, or are you just trying it on your own without instructions?

Are you using the one handed fan to have a card selected or in a routine with other flourishes? I ask this because there are a few things about card fanning to know.

1) Card fanning requires clean cards. I ALWAYS use my close up pad or clean napkin or something, when doing card tricks. So point one, keep your cards clean.

2) Adjust the grip of you hand. you may be holding them too close to the edges. Holding the cards near the center makes a smaller fan. Closer to the edges makes a larger fan but you may loose some control.

3) Adjust the tightness of your grip. Too tifht, they squirt out like a bar of soap. Too loose well......

4) If you are doing a fanning routine only, use fanning cards. Keep them clean and in the same order for now until you get the hang of it. They fan better. Shimada does shuffle his cards and can still make great fans. That also comes with practice. Also get some fanning powder incase you drop them.

5) Adjust the angle of your hand, and fingers, meaning the palm more up or down. For example the dovetail fan requires you to hold the cards between your 1st and 2nd fingers briefly at one point. If your fingers are not directly over each other and the angle of your palm is not correct, the cards will fall.

you just gotta practice and keep practicing. i learned from i think royal road to card magic, at first its a little awkward, but you get used to it give it a week with 1 hour practice ieach day and you'll have it down in no time at all
