I am strongly considering in investing in "In the Beginning There Were Coins". What really caught my attention was the trick where a signature is duplicated from one coin to another. As a somewhat beginner, is this trick to advanced to master with persistent practice? Also is the trick adaptable? In other words, can the routine be something like signed coin to impossible location, where you make the coin vanish and appear in an envelope somewhere else in the room, or in your pocket.Also is the trick impromptu? I appreciate the feedback greatly, as this trick meets my criteria "If I could do real magic, I would do this." Its THAT powerful but I feel as if there must be some major catch.

the trick is easy, and dosn't take a whole lot of practice. Its not all inspectable though. I don't reccomend buying in the beggining there were coins. Buy Bobo's book, its cheaper and it has pretty much everything ITBTWC has and much more!

I totally disagree with Philal. A lot of people recommend books over DVDs, but that's only because they learned from books. Technology has given us new ways to learn magic. Some videos may not live up to the quality of books, but if you're wanting to get started in Sleight of Hand magic, DVDs are a great way to go. Without some type of mentor, you don't really know how these moves are supposed to look. I posted a blog on it a while back. It may be worth reading. As for In the Beginning, I think it's great. We can't keep them in stock in the local shop. It's a great video, potentially even better than the Roth videos for the modern performer. Not in the teaching or any of that, in the fact that Roth's material is all performed at the table in a classical sense, while Jay is on the streets doing real magic for real people.

I agree. It's not the best, but it's good to get you started. I love the Roth videos. I literally learned nothing from In the Beginning, but I've got 15 years of closeup magic experience. I learned from the Roth videos, but had to adapt everything. Jay's already adapted the material for the venues these guys are going to be in.
