What's the difference between a reg. HDES (Half dollar expanded shell) and a Two Sided HDES

The description pretty much explains it. Rather than having a blank back side, it has the pattern of the reverse side of the coin inside the shell. It can't be examined, or even glanced at for more than a moment, or they'll see that it's not a real coin. Unless yuu have a specific routine that requires you to briefly flash the back side of the shell, I wouldn't worry about it.

so you can casually flash the inside of a shell and it will look like a coin, not a shell.

There's a company still making them?

I don't know, but Nathan Kranzo's come close. The imprint on the inside matches the outside, but who cares, noone should see the inside anyway.
