I went to the bank today and got a variety of Susan B's, Sacajaweus(spl..), Kennedy halfs, but they had no Eisenheiwer's :( I went to two others banks looking for Ike's today, no luck. I remember when you would get them with change :) but I guess you gotta stock up when you find them, or go to a coin shop and pay too much for one.

And why is it that a Fifty dollar gold piece costs Five hundred dollars? go figure. try getting the bank to give you a fifty dollar gold coin for fifty dollars :?

bloody half-dollars. why not just use a 50p if you are native to the land of the United Kingdom. And that bloody stupid raven comes with an american quarter, nickel, whatever it's amarican and that is useless in England. I guess this is falling on death ears as i am speaking to a bunch of americans, just thought i'd let of some steam...sorry.

Better yet, move to Canada where most of our coins (ungimmicked) are compatible with the raven. :)

Actually I have found that only one of the canadian coins is steel. Also if you live in England there is a magic dealer there named marvin's magic. He is Brithish so all of his coins match yours if you live in England . Anyways, two tricks of his have coins thats re metallic. One is called like energized coin and comes with a penny made of steal and another is great british coin trick which comes with metal quarters or something.

Most large bank branches carry halfs (as stated here), but you can also get good circulated coins at coin hobby shops (which i saw mentioned once in this thread) for face or a little more depending. I get all my coins, that aren't in major circulation, at hobby shops. You can get Ike's (eisenhower) and Franklin halfs and Silver libertys and everything for relatively cheap. I picked up 10 Ikes for 1.30 each and they are in varying degrees of condition, you can also pick up new silver coins for around 7 or 8 bucks and they are nice and shiny and provide a nice effect. I also like to use Franklin halfs as alot of people haven't seen them or havent seen them for years (they were last made in 1963 i believe) so that gets good responses. You will probably pay more for halfs at a coin shop (especially the Franklins), but if you can't find some anywhere else then that might be a good spot. Anyhow thats my 2 cents about finding halfs.

BTW, how do silver dollars compare to half dollars in size?

Half: 30mm diameter, 8mm thick

Dollar: 49mm diameter, 10mm thick

The dollar is a BIG coin.

It's a thing called intrinsic value of the metal versus face value of the coin. The difference is inflation, in rough terms.
