I ordered my Sasco half dollar expanded shell and it arrived today.
Guess I never really gave it any thought when I made the purchase, but I was assuming it would be the heads side. Mine is the tails side.
Guess it is not a big deal and was getting it mainly for practice sake, but I'm so anal about always turning the coins heads up this will be annoying...
Is this the way these are sold where you take your chances or do you get to specify at the better coin sites?
I feel kind of dumb asking but never even gave it a thought before it arrived today...

They do that because the coins are embossed deeper on the head side and by making them that way, they can cut them deeper to cover more. Life is too short to worry about which side of your coins are facing up. The back of a half dollar is the prettier side of the coin anyway.

Not all shells are tails. In fact I have one that is heads...and I am also getting another one that is heads.

The 64 shell that I will be getting is heads as well.

I guess it is just the luck of the draw.

I didn't realize that. . but it makes sense that they would make both kinds. I guess you can try to ask for what you want before you order.
