I went to a magic shop yesterday and they had the BIG version of this book. It was printed later with four more chapters. I only have the small one.

The guy told me that with these books you need to read one trick - the whole thing and sign your initials at the beginning of the trick.

Then practice it twelve times and after that, write your initials at the end of the trick.

Then, you need to perform the trick twelve times to strangers and you circle the initials. If you mess up on any of the twelve times, you have to start over.

He said this is how he teaches his students. I now know that this is the way to "actually read" bobos modern coin magic.

If I just learned a new trick and practiced it only 12 times, I would mess up horribly in front of all 12 people... that's extremely bad advice!

Ooh. Woops. I forgot about that part. Ummm... but what if it was luck? Can't be? And I still wouldn't be too comfortable performing it after 12 times in a row... at least I don't think I would be  .

Assuming "practicing" the effect means rehearsing it, I'd be comfortable with doing that. I usually silently practice all the sleights to an effect and then rehearse way more than 12 times, but I could do it.

I got it on Monday, and I'm slowly working my way through it. I would probably be done by now, but I want to make sure I don't miss anything really good.

Maybe I am just plain stupid but I cannot learn coin magic from a book. Only from a DVD or from someone showing it to me. I have the MCM book however, as it is a classic. I just have not read it because I really cannot get a move if I have not seen it. And in coin magic, the small details are very important
