I might buy a cup and ball set soon
but, I figured I could just buy 3 cups from the store to begin with, rather than those crappy little colored plastic cups, which is why im wondering, the cups arent gimmicked, are they?

Im also planning on getting gazzos dvd and book, and the 2 courses dvds on cups and balls.

If you want to buy some cups and balls from the store, make sure you get ones that nest well with each other. By nest well I mean there should be space between the cups when placed on top of each other so when a ball or balls is between the cups, the cups sit as if there is nothing between them.

What you basically need is a shoulder for the mouth of the top cup to ride on. Take a look at cups and balls pictures to see what I mean.

i recommend the penguin cups, they are a little price but worth it. they will last you a life time

A nesting set isn't necessary. Though there are some displays that rely on them nesting.

Wayno is right, but the shoulder also helps keep the cups from wedging together for any moves that require nesting. They should also have a "well" in the base deep enough that any balls resting there don't roll off.

If you're creative enough on your own, you could use coffee mugs and make your own routine. But first you need to know the basics and the easiest way is to buy a set of cups designed for the task. The Bazar de Magia cups sold here on Penguin is probably the cheapest starter set you'll find here. Don't be tempted by the low price of the Uday cups. They lack some qualities necessary to learn certain moves properly.

It includes a segment on Misdirection, acting, etc... teaches Ammar's Cups and Balls, and Dai Vernon's Cups and balls routines... and has Dai Vernon performing his routine on mark Wilson's show... also has a lot of material on how the cups and balls was represented in art as an idea about how it was performed back then.

All in all, I would consider saving up, and buying both together, along with

I LOVE my Telic Stage Magic Wand. It is a great quality wand, one piece of wood with screw-on tips. It matches my Bazar cups and it really feels awesome for spins. When I do my video reviews I'll put in a shot of it.
