It's a personal preference thing as to whether or not you utilize a TT and, if so, how much. Most close-up guys I know use a TT at least once in a while and always have one on them. I use them all the time - in every performance. Not for every effect or anything like that; but whether I'm doing close-up on the street, walk-around at an event or stage magic for kids - there is always at least once where I perform an effect utilizing, at least to some degree, a TT. I literally NEVER leave the house without at least one and usually with two, (a hard and a soft one). Used properly and applying your own creativity, (in other words - don't do the same old effects everyone knows are done with a TT), you can do some pretty amazing-looking stuff with a TT. It's probably a good idea if you're going to be doing close-up to get one, LEARN TO USE IT PROPERLY and always carry it with you - just in case.

I have been practicing with the TT. I have 4 effects i do well. It's funny because when i started watching daryl's Encyclopedia, my daughter who is also into magic, started watching with me. She told me " i cannot learn from him, he's too funny.... GONE!!!"

The TT I have is darker than my skin, I had issues about it... "people will see", it's " in their face..." " everyone knows about them."

Anyway, I just got the courage up one day, and did a vanish with it... I used " The Tuck".. used a variety of fingers... payed attention to details Like Time misdirection... flashed the empty palm, all non chalantely... and although she knew what a TT was, and How it could be used. her reaction was " Where the heck it go???"

I have to say that if people are into magic, they should get a TT, and learn to use it. Even if they don't see a way to put it in their act it is awesome for those impromptu moments....as someone said... see a sad kid give him a little reason to smile

Gary Darwin is great. And it's because he's fun that I think he's easy to learn from. It's not the "GONE!" that gets me - (which, by the way, he has written and illustrated several books on TT magic and he even puts the "GONE!" in print!) - so much as the "YES!" every once in a while, many times for no apparent reason. He's a hoot!

But you can't beat the material that's on that set. Well-worth the money. And even though I've been using my TTs regularly for years now, I still find myself going back to those DVDs on occasion. Either for refreshers, to spark new ideas or for entertainment.
