Here's something I have been pondering without answer, so I thought I'd give the forum a shot. I have an acrylic sphere I contact juggle with. It's not gimmick. What I would like to do is find a way to make it vanish without using some gimmick, but it is so large. The magicians at my local magic shop could not offer any insight either. So here's my question:

Is there a way it can be done without gimmick. If so, point me in the dirrection to purchase the proper video.

Can it be done with a gimmick? I was thinking a box to make it vanish from, but it would be far more appealing if it vanished from my hands.

If you are performing this on stage and wanting a complete vanish from your hands, I think BA would be your best option. If you plan on doing this in a Parlor setting, you might consider a Breakaway Box...depending upon the weight of your sphere. This way does not allow for a complete vanish from your hands, though.

You say your sphere is acrylic (See-Through?) like a crytal ball? If it were a solid color like red, black etc. you can purchase spherical balloons to match your ball. When inflated, they are perfectly round (size would need to be close). Make a switch during your routine ringing in the spherical balloon and vanish it instead.

Since you posted this in the Close-Up Forum...I don't think you can make this believable in an intimate setting. Parlor or Stage would be best.

Gimmickless? Not hardly. Minimal gimmicks? Definitely. Think clear suction cup on a pull. Not a wimpy one, think more vanishing birdcage heavy.

Why not just use a topit ?

The ball's a bit heavy for that, but it's a possibility.

What about a pendulum vanish, with a suction cup?

No real resources come to mind. The name pretty much sums it up. The ball swings like a pendulum out of view behind you, probably under a jacket. You'll have to choreograph the moves to hide the ball as it's blocked by your arm. Right hand holds the ball while the left hand retrieves suction cup attached to cord which is pinned under your clothes "bird cage" style. Attach to ball as hands come together. Do the "bird cage" move (I can't explain everything here) and the ball disappears.
