Does anyone know how to obtain a sample of Metal Potassium?

Its highly reactive to water. I was reading a book that discussed a bar trick with lighting a cigarette with a ice cube, with a very small amount of Metal Potassium stuck in the tip of the cigarette.

I am looking for a remarkable and "gimmickless" way to produce a spark for a flash paper trick I am working on.

The closest I came was a sample for like a chemisty set on Ebay. I wasnt sure if it was legit or not.

Thanks!

I have an excellent explanation video on this auto-lighting match stuff..

Which allows you to produce a light on your match by just pulling on it..

It's really cool, and easy to make..

all you need is the match and the matchbox, clip, and a pin..

But the problem is that this in Korean, (I'm Korean.. )

So, you wouldn't be able to understand it...

Just go and search for it.. And you should get some good info about this..

After the fire caused by Great White earlier this year BE CAREFUL!!!! My restaurants have told me NO FIRE MAGIC!!!! In fact I had 3 of the restaurants I work at send me certified mail stating that it would not be allowed. That was the lawyers covering their butts, it was effective.

So if you use flash paper or the fire wallet you may be told to leave.

Google it, Kevinbrown. And Metallic potassium is no longer available to the general public, due to the fact that it is extremely volatile. There used to be a lot of tricks that involved the use of dangerous chemicles, or even in some cases unsafe X-ray radiation. Be very careful with any chemicles you use, and do a lot of research on all of the risks. Also, even if you do find the potassium, I don't recommend using it casually, as it can react to water in the air, and catch fire at inoportune moments.

Does that react to the moisture in your hands as well?

If you find a way to get your hands on some, PM me.

There is something called MRE (Meal Ready to Eat). It's basically a pack with "food" (if you can call it that!) that is used to feed soldiers in the Army. Inside it has a bag that is used to heat the "food". You just add water and it will get extremelly hot. Well, if you open that bag... you will notice that it has some type of grainy material... what makes it heat. Now, this can be VERY DANGEROUS to play with... and I haven't really done it. (I don't even know if it will work.) But there's a remote posibility that if you put some of those grains in the cigarette and use the ice... it might actually set it on fire. Now the question on your minds might be: If I'm not in the Army how the edited do I get one? Well, I've been to some "Military" Stores and they have them for sale there. I don't mean at a PX or real military store... but rather those that sell military and hunting accesories. It's kind of expensive tough. But, if it works... you'll have a lot of material enough to use a hundred times or so.

Warning: This is for Educational purposes only. And I don't really encourage anyone to do it. Use it at you own risk. As with any chemicals... it is always dangerous to play with them. You have been warned. Don't say I didn't tell you!!!

Yet, if there are any DareDevils who tried it. Post your results.

I dont THINK the MRE route will work. I checked into it and found the heat packet contains a magnesium mixture that reacts/oxidizes with water, creating heat. It will get hot, but wont produce a flame or spark.

The best I have been able to come up with on my end is this...

The concept on be found at this website-

http://www.chem.leeds.ac.uk/delights/texts/expt_2.html

It discusses the metal potassium idea and an even better idea using Chromium Trioxide, methanol and a piece cotton.
