It's all up to opinion but the best mental tricks that I have come in contact with are on Richard Osterlind's Mind Mysteries #1. Breif question, breif answer.

I find the Swami great to use and you can carry it anytime with you and its a great price. Lots of different effect can be done with it and every time they are mind blowing. Get that, learn to use it blow people away and then buy yourself a pack of small envelopes and some carbon paper. There are some great tips and effects in 13 Steps.

First of all, buy Tony Corinda's 13 steps to mentalism and Theodore Anneman's Practical mental magic and learn the basics and the classic plots. Then you can start creating your own stuff and adapt others to fit you better. Don't just buy "tricks" but buy books and learn the techniques and ideas.[/b]

Yes, get the 13 steps book but don't hesitate to buy some effects too. There are some real great ones that are simple yet mind-blowing.

Remember, alot of what you do in mentalism is your presentation. An effective presentation will be what makes the trick work at it's highest level.
