Thanks.

Yep - the BEST BOOK EVER on cold reading - "The Full Facts on Cold Reading" by Ian Rowland, currently in it's third edition. It's an absolute bible. Trust me, it's worth every penny.

There's a booklet somewhere called Tradecraft that's supposed to be really good.

The ability to meet someone, and tell them details about themselves which you should not be able to know. Think "fortunetelling".

it is called "Cold" reading because you do it without knowing anything about your client in advance. "Hot" reading is exactly the same thing, but you do research on your client before giving the reading.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Jakob.

Does anyone know who published this book and the author's name?

you might want to do a search on google for magic shops, then you can search on those sites for it.

How in the world would you be able to do that without doing background checks??? That sounds kinda weird...

It's rumored that spectators at the taping of "Crossing Over" with John Edward are line and sit sometimes for hours before the show starts and that it's bugged so that conversations can be heard.

Faith Healer, Peter Popov, (debunked by Banachek and pals) used an ear receiver and his wife fed him information that she had obtained from audience members before the "show". There is a video on Banachek's site and it's quite good.

Make an appointment with a psychic? There's nothing to stop them from finding your address and scoping out your home.. makes for a very convincing reading if they describe the red bush next to the fountain of your yellow brick home...

Everything I know about cold reading I learned from South Park (john edwards episode).... :)

Heh. That's just the tip of the iceberg one could imagine. Possibilities are endless. A simple credit check on the person would reveal financial problems.

A simple e-mail address can be looked up to find intimate information left in forums. Most importantly support group forums, guestbooks, etc.

Hi, I just started out on some cold reading myself. I had tradecraft sometime back, but was still too new to appreciate it, so its .... somewhere... lol, need to look for it.

I've heard brillant reviews about Ian's book, and has been tempted to get it myself, but I have some other materials I am going through right now.

Consider Commerical Cold Reading by Richard Webster, its not too shabby if you are starting out... I've started listening to it for some ideas and all. It provides some basics, but if you already have knowledge, I don't think it will provide alot.

I am not sure how it complement's Ian's book though, as I don't have it.

Best of luck.

Ians book completly cold is bar far the best book on cold reading,

13 steps to mentalism has a section on cold reading

also kenton knepper wrote a small booklet called "completely cold"
after reading it, I was able to give psychic readings with scary results
people thought i was a psychic. its a complete system.

I also have "the classic reading" an introduction to the gentle art of cold reading
by lee earle

If you just want to be a psychic any of these will let you know how to do it
If your in a rush to do it get kentons book If you want to know it in depth get Ian rowland's book, I emailed him a few years ago Beggin him to Realese the book It was worth the 3 yr wait I had to get it.

13 steps Gives you good information but not as indepth as Ians book

A few others Which I have never been able to get my hands on Is "king of the cold readers" by Herb Dewey and "Red Hot Cold Reading"
