100% cool. Although i am partial to Max Maven's because thats all i own. He has performances first and then show the secrets. Very cool. I let my wife watch the perfomences with me and she thought they were very cool too.

Which of the mentalism DVD set would be good to start off with? I'm a beginner and am interested in getting some DVDs.

Anyone have anything good to say about Lesley's Cabaret Mindreading?

I've got Cassidy's and Osterlind's no doubt great. I just ordered Osterlind's set yesterday. Maven's set I should be getting in about 10 days or hopefully less. Gotta love the postal service. :(

Max Maven DVD's come in 3 different topics, one is close-up, one is stage performance and something else for the 3rd one, make sure you need all three before buying them.
I got the close-up only.

Maven's close-up is pretty cool. There's a couple effects in it I like. :) The whole set is worth it. Couldn't say I'd recommend one DVD over another because I found at least a couple effects on each disk I liked.

[edited out a question on where to start]

EDIT: After reading through this part of the forum, I found out that as a complete newbie to mentalism, it's wise to start with Practical Mental Magic by Theodore Annemann. So I ordered it of Penguin.
Other suggestions are welcome.

Jason,

Good choice on Anneman. I suggest also Fulves 67 mentalism effects book to start with.

And I would suggest Corinda's 13 Steps to Mentalism. It's a book. It's not sexy. But it contains the foundation for just about any mentalism act you will ever do.
