Actually, I told this whole story in the into to the new book "Breakthrough Card System - 20th anniversary" and in "Magic Magazine."
Briefly, I was working in my father's tool and die shop and trying desperately to figure out the stack. I had worked for months. The deck I was using was covered with grease. I had given up for a few days and was standing at a Bridgeport milling machine. The final thought for the suit values hit me as I stood there and I grabbed the deck and tried it. When I got to the final card, with no repeats or having the system play out, and saw that the final card led back to the first, I was elated and mortified that I had done something wrong. I started over at the beginning and worked out every card again. When it came out right the second time, I felt like I just got my Daisy Red Ryder on Christmas morning!!! I immediately grabbed the deck and started having people pull out cards and other effects I already knew using stacked decks. I was flooring them all and constantly spreading the deck to show they "were all mixed up!" It was a great day in "greasedom"!
So that's how it was. I don't know if I have ever felt as accomplished as that day.
