Man, does it ever. Peek wallets in general are pretty hokey, but that card thing is just plain silly, imho. It SCREAMS bought-in-a-magic-shop gimmick.

The best mentalism, like the best magic, uses real-world objects (or no objects at all). Even if something like, say, Die-Cipher is completely examinable, it still LOOKS like something you got at a magic shop. It becomes an interesting puzzle at best, nothing more.

I bought Thought Transmitter and I like it... It's not for mentalists... It's for "regular magicians" that want an occasional "mental" effect. For that purpose, TT is simple, easy to use and pretty much fool proof... If the unit you get works, that is. My first one didn't work correclty and I had to get a replacement.
