that is probably the most ancient mindreading effect. perhaps you should use some suggestion and make the spectator feel the thought jump from their head to yours. not only to you read their mind, you have a logical explanation of how it worked. just my two cents

Funny you should mention it. I do it all the time. I use a simple force and it has fooled everyone. It is a great effect if you are a good actor. You can make them feel erie and freak them out if you look deep in their eyes. It is great. No one yet has seemed to figure it out. It is a great idea to use for all of you who do not. I also do this trick where I force a card and say it is for a trick. then before I get into it I say make sure it is not, what ever card I forced I do it over and over and people love. Just some thoughts.

I always get great reaction. Here is my routine. First I tell them “well it’s either red or black” That gets them thinking. Then I tell them the color. The next phase, I say for example” well if it red it must be heart or diamond”. They now start to freak. I then say for example it is diamond. For the finale I say for example “ it’s not a big card or a small card, it is the 7 of diamond. They just freak and ask me how it is done. It’s great.

I personally prefer to do any mental card forces rather than forcing a card on them. I do a similar presentation to Derren Brown. I first lay a single card face down on the table that they don't see the face. I now force the card mentally to them (if you want to know how, buy pure effect or the devil's picture book) and then they name the card they have in mind. I tell them to turn that card over and it is obviously their card.

Exactly jean. All you have to do is go uhh it is either one of theses two to get them thinking and they start t feel like you are reading their mind. But then you name it. They freak out it is great.

forcing a card on someone then revelaing it isn't mentalism.

Obviously its not true mentalism, but what is? I bet the mentalist tricks you do have a gimmick, or trick behind them, hence they're not true mentalism either. This can be presented as mentalism if you use some acting. As was said before.

It all depents on how you reveal the card. What patetr and what acting you will use.

not really. forcing a card means the magician has his hands on the cards for a significant amount of the time. unless it is a verbal force...

this method works very well in performing this trick for a group. it is repeatable, and its the reactions of the group that make the effect impressive.
