A while back, I asked for some opinions about a water tank escape. I finally came up with a design, built it and performed it. I thought some of you may be interested in seeing the final product.

Thats a nice tank if you built it your self. I too am in the process of a water tank like escape, just with a few added twists.

The only water tank escape I've ever done was a 55 gal drum escape in the late 1970s, using a lid as described by David DeVal in one of his books.

Remove the gasket seal, have the mounting ring welded to the drum and add a gaffed fastener of your choice, and you have a good 'water tank.' The slightly domed lid would allow you, with practice, to have a serviceable air space to place your nose and mouth up into for an occasional breath.

Yes I built it and the thing is it only cost around $200. Where I saved the most money was on the plexi glass. I only used 1/8" thick plexi glass. The biggest problem I ran into was at first I had the complete top of the box hinged and it went out of square. So I screwed a solid 3/4" plywood top on it and cut a door in it. It doesn't go aout of square now! For the performance I put a fish tank aerator in it to make some bubbles along with colored lights. It looked better live than it does in the pictures.

Yes, I was in a storm for the straightjacket escape. We had to keep postponing it untill we had a break in the weather. I felt like a human lightning rod!

It's hard to tell from the photos, but did you have the metalwork welded, or was it riveted or bolted?

very nice i am making one now but alot bigger than yours (something like houdini size but its going good. You must of spent alot of time and effort into it and it pays off! looks good hope you enjoy it and get alot of great reactions out of it!

Do you have a van, pickup or trailer Tay?

I am not sure he can drive, thats what i gather based on his past posts, but i could be wrong.
And besides that, water escapes arent something to fool with. I have been training daily for my next water escape.

Why?

Nothing is welded. I used 1" grabber screws and bolts. It is on a base with 3" casters but once it is filled with water I do not move it. I have a 3/4 inch drain under the tank. The tank just rests on the base to provide access to hte drain valve. When it is empty it is easily pushed around. I can if I need to, load it into the truck by myself. The ends of the tank have handles so it can be carried. I made the tank small on purpose. I feel that a large tank makes the audiance feel there is plenty of room to move around. A smaller tank looks like there is not enough room. I transport it in a truck.

Yes I can drive and I do not know why you think I can't. I have been driving for 31 years. Figure I was 16 when I got my liscence tells you how old I am.

I agree completely with that psychology. Anything 'claustrophobic' has a strong audience effect. Plus, a smaller tank is easier to transport.



Actually, I think David meant that comment for 'genius.' It was no reflection on you.
