I think starting off with a routine that involves music is good. Maybe the dancing cane or a dancing routine with the D'Lites. Music is good at bringing people together and is a good way to break the ice  .

Yea, I'm doing a show in a few months and I'm really thinking about opening with dancing cane to silks.

Dancing Canes to Silk would be excellent, I usually open mine with some sort of silk appearance, usually a long multicolored streamer out of my hand or a larger silk streamer out of a production box.

All of those sound like they would be great openers and they all fall into an important rule I was taught. That is to make sure that with your opening trick you get into the effect or make the magic happen within 1-2 minutes.

Maynes Bisection would be good for an opener. It gets theyre attention. But it depends on your style.

I like the idea of silk productions, then you can transition to disapearing hanky. I like to try and think of how I can transition tricks smoothly, and by doing that, an opening trick can become larger.

That's my two cents
