Hi

Can someone please explain to me about the patents and copyrighting in the magic business.

I understand that obviously if you make a magic contraption that it is patentable, but are magic tricks patented.
eg. "professor's nightmare" or any of the downloadable card tricks/ coin tricks on this site. If you were to write an e-book teaching a card trick, would that be an infringement on a patent?

Thanks

A lot of methods/contraptions are patented. Patter and methods are copyrighted. When you purchase a trick you are also give (in my understanding) performance rights as well. You cannot market the effect that someone else holds a copyright or patent too. But some tricks are so old, that they are in the public domain. And are pretty much, up for grabs.
