:D It's an hour long... Umm... I have bad experiences with show that long. The kids get sick of it after awhile. I would cut off about 15 minutes. However, if you can keep them hooked, go for it! :!:

Well, if the kids are younger, I would get some tricks focused towards them.

then they would want more.. all of the magic shows i have been to in the past (with the exception of one) have been 30 - 45 minutes.. the ones in Las Vegas normally last a tad bit longer.. but all the magicicans that i've seen perform for parties/schools/gatherings have been 30 - 45 minutes long..

Generally, the effects seem suitable for kids in general. However, you must determine the age group of the kids for whom you will be performing. 5 and 6 year olds are very different from 11 and 12 year olds. It's very difficult to do the same show. Their attention spans and live experiences are very limited.

Also, think about the overall routining of your show. What will you open with and why. What will you close with and why. What sequence of effects will you have and why.

Then, address your mind to costuming, presentation and audience control. These factors are extremely important whenever performing a kids show.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Ok depending on the age of the kids you should keep your show around 20-45 minutes especially if you are going to do balloons afterwards.
There are some great books and DVD's out there that have some excellent advice on giving Birthday parties. Many considerations that I did not think about before doing one. Have you thought about crowd control? Or how will you handle the kid who thinks he knows how to do all the tricks? How many tricks will you have the Birthday child help with? (This is important!!) Hopefully you have considered these and a few other important things.
On Strat-O-Sphere there are several patters you can use, you could act like it was a Stop Light, or have the kids pretend they are apples and give a story on Johnny Appleseed it is up to you. I have used both of these and a gospel presentation for churches.

I like to use strat-o-sphere with the stop light method. No matter how hard you try to get rid of red lights(red ball), they always show up again. :D
