Anyone else pick this game up yet? I just started playing it last night and immediately fell in love with it!! Aside from looking great, the atmosphere is fantastic and the gameplay is amazing. This one is truly a masterpiece. Can't wait to get home today so I can play some more!

I preordered it and it is sitting in my parents house about 300km away. Will probably get to play it tomorrow.

I had high hopes for this game and i was rather disappointed.
The graphics and animation are spectacular, brilliant attention to detail.

ANNOYINGLY, the game just flat out bores me. It is more like a point and click, multiple choice puzzle for me.
While i knew it wasn't going to be another Grand Theft Auto, i had hoped that the basic elements would have been there.
For example, at one point i got bored and thought "Okay, maybe i will just go shoot a random person in the knee" but i could not even pull out my gun. That's right, the COP only has a gun when the game brings in a bad guy.

The city is a marvel of design but pretty wasted in my opinion. You are never NOT on a mission in this game, you always have some guy with you. You cannot just run off and go see a 1940's film or something. The game feels like a movie that takes place in various locations and your job is to drive to those locations to watch another film clip or shoot the random guy. I do not feel free in this game at all.

The cut in movie scenes do not flow in the most basic fashion.
If you happen to drive up to a location from a different direction than the game expected you to, when the movie clip appears it just moves you to where you are 'supposed' to be, no effort at all.
Not a big deal, but kind of annoys me.

I have no connection with this character, i don't care what happens to him. He is a goody-two shoes, annoying and boring guy that seems to have absolutely no social life. I don't WANT to be him. I feel sorry for him, his life seems to be a massive fail.

One of the best things about other Rockstar games such as the GTA series or Red Dead Redemption (the best game ever) is that you don't have to do the missions if you don't want to. As a matter of fact, in those games i would have to say i spent most of my time driving, riding around simply enjoying the sights and participating in card games or some other random activity. None of that in this game from what i have seen so far.

Maybe it just isn't for me.

Well, the lack of free roaming I understand [not usual for Rockstar], but goody two shoes?! Gotta play til the end - he has some pretty sig character flaws that get revealed, and is a total hero at the end.

In all honesty, I can't find something that makes it look good. I love the concept, I just don't like what I've seen from trailers. Just doesn't look good to me.

I don't understand what's so revolutionary about this game, can anyone explain?

It's funny I didn't find anything about it revolutionary. The graphics are great and perhaps the facial rendering of the actual gameplay is a bit beyond what's done before, but other than that I don't find anything particularly revolutionary. But I love the game, the way clues are collected and suspects are interrogated. I can understand the complaint about it not being open enough, but I've never been the biggest fan of the truly open games. I always end up getting bored with it before completing the main missions and never finish.

L.A. Confidential is one of my favorite movies and the similar feel to this game also appeals to me.
