Yesterday, my girlfriend and I were flipping through the site. I was thinking about buying a few beginner effects for her son, he has expressed an interest in Magic.

Anyways, she asked what the little icons for Quicktime and Media Player where for. I told her they were demo videos. So, we went thru and watched about a dozen of them. It was kind of refreshing to watch her reactions as a layperson versus my jaded reactions as a Magician. It also gave me a few ideas as to what would work and what would not work in real world performance sitations.

Maybe an idea everyone else can use if you have access to a layperson. Let them watch the demo vids of the stuff you are contemplating buying. Because what may look like total garbage to us blows the socks of laypeople and of course the other way around.

I think that magicians will say that its not a good trick because it is too gimmickey and that it is easy to figure out.The fact is that lay people dont know about magic moves and gimmicked decks as much as we do

one time i was going thru some demo vids with a freind of mine. i showed him the bite-out quarter and rising deck.

After the bite-out quarter he grabbed one of my nickels and started to bite down real hard, he chipped his tooth. Then he asked me why it didn't work and i said "Duh! You bit a nickel not a quarter stupid!" He looked at me weird and i just cracked up. After that i showed him the rising deck. He said "dude that is SOO easy" i reminded him about his tooth. (hehe) then he took one of my many decks laying around and said "pick a card, any card" i looked at him, and took one, "ok put it back into the deck", i did. Then he leaned the deck up against my wrist and stared at it for about a minute. I then decided to never ever show him another magic demo vid again.

I wonder what would happen if i showed him the demo for Shock FX (paperclip in arm)

She really liked the 'Pen Thru' effects and the Levitating dollar bill stuff. She also like the Sneak A Peak demo.
