What size straight jacket?

I haven't been able to get a definite answer on the size of straight jackt I need.
I've read reviews of several brands and some of them even say that they run a little smaller or bigger than the size on the tag.

I've been told to go to Performance Jackets for my first jacket, but all their sizes seem to be based on my measurements.
I've sent them a few e-mails asking for their advise, but it's been over a week and I haven't heard back from them.

I have no idea what my measurements are and so don't know what size straight jacket I should get.
I'm around 220-230lbs, 6'3", kinda broad shouldered.
I'm not fat, but I've got a bit of a gut. I hear that escaping from straight jackets is a good workout though.
I was thinking that I might want an XL size, but I don't know if that would be too big... I don't wan't it to be clearly oversized on me. I don't know anything about it though, and I don't want to get a jacket that isn't big enough either.

I was hoping some of you more experienced then I escapers might be able to give me a little advice.

take your measurments. get a tape measure and use it. or some string and then measure the string.

When measuring, go under the arm pits with the measuring tape. measure your chest at its normal position and expanded position. That should allow you to know what range of size your jacket should be.

XL is around 44"-46''

Also, it depends on the company.
With a Humane Restraint Co. Jacket, I wore a small at 165 lbs.

A medium would work for a football player/wrestler and a large for an obese gorilla. :wink:

Always get a size larger than you normally would need.

Ok, I finaly found my measuring tape.
I'm around the 44-46 inches range.
So should I get an XL or one size up if I'm getting one from Performance Jackets?

That would be a Humane Restraint Co. Jacket and, at the ~ 44 chest measurement, large would definitely be plenty big enough (maybe a bit too big); one might even squeeze into a medium.

As for washing: I tried washing mine years ago; the canvas sleeves fill with water, causing a weight imbalance in the washing machine. I had to stop it 2-3 times to dump the water out of the sleeves. Better just to air it out.

And yes, it is very heavy and sturdy. A new HR jacket is about as stiff as cardboard!
