In alot of theese threads I have been seeing "I have a kids show going soon and I dont have a routine!!!" and the reply's are mostly the same which I agree "You should haven't of took in the kids show if you didnt even have a routine in the first place" . So I dont want to be like that. I dont have a gig yet so I am trying to put together a routine my self. I am ussally a card magician but I am not trying to do cards on kids. I have some TT routine's that I will use and I am thinking of getting color book too. Any one can suggest me some stuff thats not THAT expensive. :D

Sponge balls, mouth streamers, tricks with confetti, silks. Search around.

hippity hop rabbits is pretty good and has a standard routine that most magicians follow. It can easily cover for 5 minutes so that might be a good start.

Instead of buying tricks, but some books. Look around in this forum for info on books (as it has been said THOUSANDS of times) and they can help you choose what tricks are good and which are not. THis way you can make a great routine, before you even had to buy any props.

I haven't done much kids show, One of my relative asked me to do a magic show for their kids because it was his son birthday. She had been very nice with me so I decided to make a small routine and this is what I have done :

I started with a very easy trick, I just ate some hanky's and I used a two mouth coils so the kids where laughing I was acting like if i was struggling.
So it has been a funny opener and I got kids attention wich is hard to get sometime. Then I made a silk ''apear'' ( Look in mark wilson book they teach it ) And I have done a multiple billard ball production with the silk, Then I changed the silk into a cane. I used the cane to produce a sponge ball and i have done my sponge ball routine. Then I changed a sponge into a thimble ( Yeah i like changes uh!... I had not much time to create a routine so my transistion was just changes...) Kids loved the thimble routine. Then I ended with flash pads and giant coins.

I got some laugh, they where all happy and the kid had a great birthday!
But im not much into kid magic so my advice might be wrong, anyway!
