Well some of you may remember my "promo vid" i made a while back, and i didnt really expect anyone to hire me, mainly because i never pass out business cards, im not in the phone book, and i dont have a website.

And yet here i am....With my first gig! woohoo!
So a family friend has a son named Mason and he is turning eight soon, and i always show him a few magic tricks when i go to his house. He really loves magic and i think he looks up to me. He is just kind of understanding that magic is all trickery and sleight of hand, when before, he thought it really was...well...magic. So he is having a pool party on the 14th and about a week ago they asked me if a could do a show at his birthday. I told them i'd be happy to, and they are paying me 50 bucks! So i've been practicing my 30-40 min show for week now, and heres what i have:

Flower bag opener( where are my ropes? pull out 3 bags then pull out ropes)
3 ropes and a baby
Misers dream
Whats next?
Egg bag with a billiard ball (leads into next trick)
Multiplying billiard balls (set to music)
2 min juggling act set to music
Fooled again! (jumbo card trick)
The great rope escape
card to mouth
Cups and balls finale

lots of the tricks use volunteers, and when i have the crowd say magic words, for instance when i need the billiard ball to come back to the egg bag, i have everyone say: "Mason is Awesome!"

what do you guys think?

EDIT:
the show is on the 14th of sept.

Make sure to include plenty of gags. Kids love them.

Well you have enough for a 3 hour show. I use 4 effects in a 30 min show. Also your getting paid $50 for the show. Sorry, I don't even bother to wink and tell a joke for $50. My minimum charge is $125 and I am booked up for the next 8 weeks solid.

I once had a woman tell me that a magician had quoted her a cheap rate like that and would I match it. Well I asked her if it was a kid, with no experience and very likely to screw up the party of an adult. If it was an adult, she should check with the local sheriff to see if he was on the sexual predator list. She called the next day to book me but I told here it was too late, already been booked for her time. The moral is never sell yourself cheap.

Grats!

As previously discussed, my biggest suggestion is to film it from the back of the room. Then you can dissect the performance for hours, and improve it a ton.

Insinuate the competition is a newbie if they're young, and a child molester if they're old. That's first class, bottom feeding used car salesman tactics.

Good Job on getting a gig. Good Luck! I agree that's a lot of tricks for a 30-40 min.show, but it's your showso it's your decisions. If you could you should film it so we can watch and help.

May be, but I was right. It was an adult and he had only been out of prison for 6 months. It is a duty of parents to check out people especially when the price is to good to be true.

BTW, there is a town in the area called Indian Hill and in order to advertise in their local paper you mush have a police record check performed. Well when I put my add in the paper the police called my wife and I in to be fingerprinted. Since we were doing children's parties they checked us out with the federal people. We passed and I have been running the ad and doing parties there ever since
