I have gathered a list of tricks and want to know if they are decent show material togeather so I can start practising my routine or if i should order some more. The list includes...

Color change ball to jumbo square
Magic coloring book
stratosphere
Story card trick with big cards
Any opinions/comments are greatly apprieciated.

IMO, that's more than enough. What you really need to be focusing on is your presentation. Make sure you can present these effects well enough to keep the kids entertained... entertaining them is the main goal of the show, and if you fail to do that, you will get a bad reputation.

That is plenty. I know someone that does like 5 or 6 tricks, and that's like a 30 minute show already. It's all in the presentation (and how the kids' behavior are) It's plenty, maybe take out 2-3 tricks? Do what you think will make your routine better and more effective!

Thanks for the tips. Yea i was thinnking of taking out color changing ball to jumbo square because it would be repetetive and maby the card trick.
I forgot to mention i was planning as 30-min. show.

Just remember that it's not the magic that makes a kid show. It's basically a vehicle to use for the fun stuff doing and after the effects.
You need to come up with a good warm up and other 'props' to throw into the show to make it fun and funny. There are many books that goes over these very same things out there, so use them.

Kids shows in my opinion require visual things.. kids like to "see" things going on especially in this TV video game world we live in... Its hard to keep there attention! This is why I use lots of props and try to connect them together and make it silly and zany as possible! I also try and get animals.... As many as possible IF I can!

DONT FORGET MAGCIANS CAUTION TAPE!!! THAT NO ONE CAN CROSS!!


Here is my routine which by your guys standards IS TO LONG.. BUT... IT WORKS!

2. I then make a dove in square cage appear that I got from tora magic.. I NEVER LET THE DOVE OUT IN HOUSE (WARNING COULD BE MESSY!)
kids love animals and man its really visual!

3 Then I use Waky Wakoon ( I use this at all different times in my act)

9. For the end I levitate a kid using Flying Carpet... However I just bought Mak Magic chair suspension and will be switching to this shortly!


I also ALWAYS end by making balloon animals for ALL the kids I always make one special item the night before for the birthday child depending on what he likes.. One child liked a race car so I made him this.



The other kids I make smaller stuff like this..




Others items I use depending on age and if they want to pay for the bigger show, OR ifs its a corporate KIDS function... I Include these props below...

I can see kids reacting well to 'lean'. Something really different and new for them , I remember we were all obsessed with something similair from a Michael jackson (not so appropriate now) film where everyone leant over like that in 'smooth criminal'.

Can you give me an honest review of the hank? My hubby has been wanting to buy this for our daughter for a long time. Our daughter did a really cute routine using just the dancing hank for Halloween with a box he rigged to "jump around" once she managed to lock the hank into the box. Ever since then he has wanted to get this version of Sean's.

What do you think of it, worth the money?

Interesting Dino. Your production costs for one simple birthday party are a minimum or (US)$3111.00 Then add in another $300 for your costume. Your total production costs without set up transportation etc is again a minimum of $6170.00

Now the time I would estimate at 90 minutes for a kid's show. Well just seems over the top to me. I use a piece of rope, some silks ending with a fountain and a change bag that has a stuffed animal for the birthday child. Takes me half hour for magic and other half hour for other things like balloons and I am booked solid for three months in advance. My production costs are about $3.00 for the rope and the silks cost me about $50 plus about $3 for the stuffed toy. I almost forgot, I also do a 3 ring routine and thanks to Kristen I have now added the Russian Rings to my act. (Actually I will be adding them in another 2 weeks when I have another 30 hours of rehearsal and am happy with my performance of them.)

It's not the magic tricks, it"s the performance of the magic effects.

I don't believe its either... I agree I am alittle over the top. Guilty as charged. to tell you the truth this is not even my fulltime job. I currently own a service company here in Denver but I am considering going fulltime the first of the year.

You can buy Sean entire Hank Routine on sale for about $900 which is a great deal for version 1.0, 2.0 AND 3.0!!

The entire effect makes a great routine....

If you need more information on the trick Sean has a dvd the really exposes the entire routine. Its done well come in a great case that all three routines easily fit in.

Thanks for the info Dino. We wouldn't need the full version. Basic is all my daughter would need for startup, which would I believe set us back about $300. Now that I have finished my Christmas shopping, that will have to wait until later. My husband had already talked about buying the DVD prior to investing that amount of cash to be sure that it was what we were really looking for.

Paddy- I can't wait to hear your feedback on the rings! As I said, she has always gotten a great reaction out of them, both from audience members and others magicians she has performed them for. She has always set them to a music, which had a nice slow melody until the 'change' at which time it sounded like bright colorful circus music. She plans on adding them to her interactive show (birthday) since she is going to be increasing her 15 minute show to 30 minutes. A magician friend of ours told her again recently that as soon as she gets up to 30 min he will give her his overflow shows. He said last month alone he had to turn down over a dozen shows she could have had. That's what we call incentive to get busy!! That would make a rather nice addition to the college fund!!

Again--- can't wait to hear your thoughts on how they play out in your show! If you are comfortable, I would love to hear the patter you come up with for them via PM. My daughter's patter will revolve around her "character" in some form or fashion. After Christmas we will be re-building her show to add all the new effects and remove some of the old ones.

I am going to premier them tomorrow (11/21) at a Senior Citizen Center show. My character is Professor Paddy. He is an old time Medicine show man that "sells" Professor Paddy's Ancient Irish Remedy and Pain Killer!" Two or three sips of this and you feel no pain at all! So I'll "splash" a little of my "Remedy" on them to miracuosly change from black to being "studded with all kinds of diamonds and precious jewels!"

In this day and age of the internet the world has gone global! People with big enough budgets will fly people into your town and steal your business. granted that not everyone but the client you want that have the money will pay for a better props, equipment and performance.

I do not go into a show with jeans and shirt....

I do not make one dog balloon animals...

My props look the part..

Am I over the top? YES... I always give my clients more than they were expecting.

I think you have a great show. I also have used several tricks in my shows and have always had great reactions and been asked back. It works if you routine it right which is something you seem to know how to do.

I think it's great at the expense you have put into your show. The only reason I haven't really gotten bigger yet in my area is that I'm still working on finishing off the completion of a show that is getting expensive, but this is my choice. Some like to spend, some don't. Whatever suits the individual isn't wrong either way.

Basically, there are 2 rules I go by,

1) Make sure the audience (and paying customer) enjoy your show.
2) Make sure you enjoy your show so you will really approach each individual show with a high level of enthusiasm.




And your balloon animals are pretty amazing!
