if you want to do a kids party..how do y ou get a job....flyers? if so..where do you place them, maybe at local public schools? Ive been doin magic a long time.. im about 17 right now.. i have always wanteed to do kids shows and make some money with my magic but i never actually got aroudn to doing it. The few tricks i can think off of the top of my head that i own for kids shows are:
tricky bottles
peanut butter and jelly
collecters sucker die box
magic coloring book
mirror box
strat o sphere
and 2 other great stage tricks that kids would love...
Im thinking about getting a fwe other tricks...out of a local magicstore that is going otu of business nearby where i live so i will get some good discounts there.

I would really appreciate if people could give em some tips on what to do.. Im probably going to start asking for 100-125 an hour..do an hour show. I really want to know how to get the job though

Im wondering the same thing. Im 15 and I've been into magic a while now, and I think im ready for kids shows, but I have no idea on how to start... the only thing i could think of was maybe word of mouth-example: do some free shows around your neighborhood-and if they liked the show have them suggest you to some of their friends-- after the show give them info they can hand out to people...you never know what can happen. Also, try calling your local newspaper- Sometimes they are willing to put your info in a free ad section- if you can drive anywhere around your town to your shows you shouldnt have any problems. umm if all else fails, print off a few hundred fliers, and drive around putting em up everywhere lol... well, goodluck...hope you can get some gigs, and start making some money...

Well, prior to doing any shows, it would be advisable to join a ring...either IBM or SAM...now this is just my humble opinion mind you. But, a ring will be an invaluable source of information. I would also make sure you were insured....if anything goes wrong...you don't want to be held accountable, and if you are, you want to have plenty of insurance to cover yourself!

What Paddy is trying to say is, look up David Ginn and Samuel Patrick Smith and check their sites out. They have a couple of books on marketing your self and a whole bunch of other books on routines and things.

Orpheus suggestion on David Ginn and Sammy Smith is excellant. You can also get stuff from Steve Kissell. He has alittle booklet out concerning kid shows that is really good. They all also have ways of getting started and getting your name out there.
I got started in this about two years ago and on a part time basis (I am a Cincinnati Firefighter) I am earning about a $1,000.00 per month.
Go to as many conventions that you can get too. Even go to some of the Clown Conventions they have excellant classes concerning what you are looking for. You don't have to be a clown but they show you excellant ways to entertain kids. And they all have dealers from all over there where you can get magic.
I got a very small ad in the yellow pages and it has worked wonders. You don't need a big expensive ad just a small one. I hope this is helpful and best of luck. I think it is great you are getting into this so young I wish that I did.
