Kids music- Radio Disney stuff, and also techno. I play the radio Disney CD before the show and turn it up loud. I let the kids sing or do whatever until I am ready to start the show.

Wow, people use trance. Some times, I use techno like Fatboy Slims Clean CD's. They are really good techno and they use a lot of his songs in commercials.

Music does a lot. It can make an audince get pumped up, it can make kids at kids shows shut up and be calm, or the opposite.

Music is definitly awesome when used effectivly, like with a theme or something. With kids though I would definitly use music that was fun and familiar with them, as opposed to trance or mysterious music.

Stickytape,
Music isn't necessary but it does add to the quality of your show. If you've ever watched a show with and without music, the one with the music definitely stood out more. Kids do love to hear music, and as the old saying goes music soothes the average beast.
Which at times kids can be!
As far as do magicians use music! All the big timers do. If you go to a show in Vegas or Reno, they all use music big time during their magic shows. I saw Duane Laughlin a while back at a small show and he used music in his show to perfection, really made it stand out.
Whether on stage or in someone's living room used right, music can inhance your show and make it look more professional. Which equals more bookings and more cash.
Myself, I do most of my shows as a Clown so a lot of my music is Circus stuff.

I don't use music for my show. However, if you want a good example of music used effectively in a show, I recommend Ken Scott's DVD.

jan hammer did soundtracks for miami vice and beyond the mind's eye. Check out some clips at amazon.com. Cool wild strong music for magic routines. I probably should check more into kid type music (like Disney stuff mentioned before)

I use the SIX FLAGS THEME SONG! You know, the one everybody loves that has the old guy dancing to it! It is great. I had to search long and hard for it but I have been using a while now after I finally found it.

Many magicians use techno beats but I find that too common so I shoot for other tunes!
