I have heard that kids like bright colorful outfits. Then I heard that a suit makes you look more mature. So what do you out in penguin land wear?

Unless you're in a nudist camp, wear clothes.

It depends on your character, lax. If you are the magician that wears a tuxedo, that is what you wear, if you are a clown college graduate, then be a magical clown, if you're a David Blain wannabe, then dress like a druggie. It is up to YOU and the character that your magician is that will determine hou you are costumed.

Do kids like say, a hawian shirt and some kind of paints that are a color, rather than the darkness of a tux or suit. Do people think you are more mature when you wear a suit?

Wear something fun, but don't wear anything too wierd looking. Look professional for the adults and funny for the kids. Don't wear tennis shoes. skate shoes. Wear a nice shoe or whatever goes with your clothes.
I am not going to tell you exactly what to wear because you should decide what to wear.

Well the first thing you need to figure out is your character. Are you the magician that messes up every effect? If so you want something that makes you look silly. You wouldnt want to wear something outrageous and funny looking if you want everyone to think you are a serious magician.

You, your outfit, music if you use any, your routine all must flow together. If they dont then it will throw your whole show off tempo.

What you wear should be a reflection of your magical persona.
One summer I did routines where I was a Mad Scientist, so I wore a lab coat, a hair net, thick glasses, the whole lot.

Normally, I dress in semi-casual clothes (that are VERY clean and neatly ironed) and perform a semi-casual show. It's ok for the kids to laugh and have fun, but they also know to stay in their seats. To maintain this atmosphere, I give a little talk during my intro. It only takes a minute or so, but it lets the kids now they can have fun, but the need to respect me as a performer. The parents are usually shocked that the kids agree and go right along with it.

I've also done some Spirit Theater (but I called it a Ghost Gallery) during Halloween in the garage. I dressed like a spooky wizard and maintained that atmosphere throughout the entire 5 minute routine (we gave out visual tricks instead of sugary treats).

Anyway, analyze your routine and your persona to decide what dress is appropriate.

I always wear a nice suit and black & white wingtips. I live in a mill town and as the performer you must stand out. Your clothes should always be well-pressed and clean! I believe you must look professional.

I dress up really korny. I wear an oversized tux and shiny black shoes. I draw a curly mustache on my face. I think this is a good mix, professional and funny, but not too much of either.

Than again, if you are wearing a clown suit, full of colorful styles, and designs, I suggest you change before talking to your "boss" or the person who's in charge of the party. lol.

i weat black slacks with a white button down shirt and over it i wear a vest thats has cards and dice all over it and the words abracadabra and on the inside it has about 28 pockets ... from thumbtips to cards but also when i start my shows the first thing i do is pull out my collapseable tophat and gice it a little jerk action so it pops into the whole hat...... not like Abe Lincoln its only about 8 inches tall and thats my outfit
