I don't really want to be a funny type of person if I do kids shows. I want to be a serious and mysterious person.
Is everyone funny when they do their kids shows?

Being funny when you do kids shows i think would help, so it is more entertaing for the kids, but if you like being serious when you perform then thats the way you should perform.

Yeah, usually it's better to be funnier. But if you can't be funny and you can do a good show while being serious then do it that way

You would last about a day in the kid show business.

Being serious is much more for adults than kids. Kids will just think you're messed up and be scared of you.. and they won't like you as much and won't enjoy your show as much

sluggo put it right. You can't be a serious kids show performer. Kids want someone silly goofy and a little off. I agree if you want to be a serious performer than be a serious performer, but don't do it as a kids show performer, because you can't. You might get one or two shows but nothing beyond that.

Your shows are geared more for adults, nothing wrong with that.

Austin, if you are intent on doing magic, its extremely important to be able to make some kind of emotional connection with your audience (this does not include them running away from you in tears). Having said that, not everyone is a natural born comedian.

If you want to be serious and do kids shows, it can be done to a degree. Take on a character where you APPEAR to be very serious and professional, but whenever you do a trick it seems to go wrong on you (of course, everything works out beautifully in the end). If you send a strong, implicit message that you are only PRETENDING to be serious and it's O.K. for the kids to laugh at you, then the kids will still have fun. The key thing to remember when adopting a role like this is that it has to be clear that your serious personna is just a pretense.
