Twenty dollars for a half hour show????
I wouldn't walk out the door for twenty bucks. Depends alittle on where you live, but $100.00 would be the starting point.
A half hour show I wouldn't go no less than $75.00.
It takes time to get ready, pack up your stuff and drive there. For $20.00 I'll make burping sounds over the phone maybe.

You obviously charged what you think you're worth. With that low an opinion of your own talents, seek another hobby.

Someone once called me for a half hour party and I quoted my minimum charge of $125 US. She then said that she had a quote for $25. Well I responded that if it was a kid he didn't know much magic and if it was an adult she should check with the local sheriff to make sure they were not perverts. She called me back the next day to book me, unfortunatly for her I had already filled the time she wanted. Remember that the higher the price the higher the quality.

While this is usually true, I have seen some horrible shows that I payed a lot of money for and great shows for a small amount of money. Now $20 for a magic show is pretty much insulting yourself. If you only charge $20 for a show, then get a new hobby like Peter said.
Let's add this up... you're probably about 12(child) and you charge $20. What adult would book you in the first place, unless they felt sorry for you? And what did you mean by you didn't hear from them again? That is not good. You want to hear back from the people whom book you.

Well first of all...the guy said that it was his first show...so it is kind of hard for him to charge $100 +.

Charge lower for your first few shows to get your name out at least. Then take it from there and when you become more popular, and if your show is appreciated and enjoyed, raise the price!

Exactly what kyle said. I started charging $60 for half hour and got my name some-what around the neighborhood and then once people knew about and thought i was good i went up to about $70-75. I know $70-75 isn't so much but that's how much my show is worth.

My first show was 30 minutes of magic and balloons for each kid, I charged $40, they gave me $50. I kept my prices low for a couple years, it would get up to $60 an hour. Now I charge $100, for my half hour act plus balloons.

I may be thinking of someone else, but didn't you say in another thread you did your first show a week ago?

I will raise as I gain more experience in live shows, I could charge more but I'm not into magic for the money.
