Technically, this is called transitioning from one trick to another. It is one of the most difficult and often overlooked subjects in the routining of a show. Unless you want a show that just has trick after trick after trick, transitions are vital.
Often, transitions can be achieved through thematic patter or effects. At other times, transitions can be achieved through a commonality between one effect and another. For instance, you might start with a silk routine and then use some of the silks in the Crystal Silk Cylinder effect. The silks change to oranges. Now you can do a Bill in Orange effect, before using the same bill for a Floating Bill.
If you go with a thematic approach, all of the effects in your show would lend themselves to a common theme. For instance, if you were to take on the persona of a Mississpi riverboat gambler, you would have relatively easy transitions between card tricks (with a gambling theme), dice tricks, and shell games. You might even be able to toss in a bullet catch.
The transitions provide a degree of continuity or "glue" to hold your show together as a package. Many people have a list of tricks and try to artifically tie them together into a routine or show. I think that's backwards. Think about the transitions and build your show to higher a higher climax based upon the various transitions that are possible.
Hope that helps.
