How much should I charge for a school show?

For your school, or for another school?

If for your school, do it for free. It's just for exposure infront of some friends.

If doing a show for a different school, I'd guess anywhere form $200-$500 depending on your experience and quality of show.

Would it be like a elementary school assembly with a lot of children?

Have you ever done a kidshow before? If so...how many and what was the event?

Do you have a LOT of experience performing for kids?

My school assembly shows are $200-$300 ea. I will not do an audience over 400 students, so the school sometimes has to be split into two separate shows. If you are just starting...you have to understand that you cannot charge that much...and if you do...then you had better hope that you do a darn good show! Believe me...the people who hire you WILL ask the faculty/staff/and some of the students what they thought of you in order to see if they will hire you again.

you would be surprised. Like I said. My shows are $200-300 for the elementary schools. I just booked one for another scool last night. They will pay...you had just better make sure that you are well worth your price!

It also depends on where you live. I was looking at the how much do you charge for regular shows thread and people were saying 100 is a lot. I was suprised at this because I charge 225 and less than 25% of callers say no for this reason. But keep in mind I live in CT. Try to do some research on that particular schools pto and what they spent on various things. Needless to say, public versus private will be different, but you should not charge differently unless the performance you give is different. My highschool was having budget trouble the other year, they even ran out of white paper! So they probably dont have a lot for magic shows. Try to find out stuff like this and price accordingly. Also, and I forget where I read this, practice saying numbers and go up until your voice waivers and then go down until it doesnt. I've never tried it but maybe someone here has experience with it.

Then you are at the proper price level for your area. If you are booking 100% of callers, you are too low. If you have more than 50% say "too expensive," then you are. However with less than 25% rejection rate you are right on in priceing. You may want to go to $250 and see the results.
