This will happen from time to time...but you have got to deal with it. It is just one of those birthday business obstacles you must overcome. It helps sometimes to tell the client over the phone exactly how much space you will need so that they can arrange your area beforehand.

Im not sure about this for magic, but for the complete party service (mom and I do everything) we actually go to the place a couple weeks before and smooth out details, take notes and measurements, pick up deposit and actually see the place beforehand. But I dont go to that much trouble just for a magic show. Just a thought. As Kyle said try to get as much info over the phone as possible.

For home parties, I make it a point to drive by the client's house the day before the performance. If I have any concerns, I can adjust my show without the client ever knowing about it.

Perry,
As stated, go over the details with the parent when the show is booked. I send a letter describing what type of setting I need to make the BD party 'perfect' for little Bobby.
Even then you may come in and nothing has been done. Noisy parents in the same room, younger louder kids nearby or even little to no space. You just deal with it the best you can.
At least you tried.
