AMEN! Gimmicks or no gimmicks. When all comes to all this is what the audience doesn't know anything about. Choose tricks that match your character and routine so that you hit the audience with more and more impressive effects, ending with a bang! From the moment you became a magician you forgot how it was to be a layman. Professional magicians learn to think like a layman again, or have layman help.
At least that's what I'm thinking for this time being
