I'm a big fan of this forum, but have noticed their is a lack of participation from forum members. My opinion is that people don't post here because they don't have anything to write essays about. This is a place to post ideas or topics you would like to see essays on. The only thing that I ask is that you keep this thread for essay requests, not comments about requests. I know it sounds a little harsh, but I hate sifting through request threads to actually find the requests.

It gets killer reactions, if done right. It's like any other magic. The trick doesn't get the reactions, the effect does. Ooh, that sounds like the topic of an essay.

Get the hint? I'll try to do one when I get time, but I would really like to get other opinions on this.

Trick versus effect

Hmmm...I'm actually having a tough time correctly defining that concept.
I will gladly accept corrections about my notions of this:

Trick: the actual mechanics of what you do
Effect: What the people see, what you present and what they perceive should be happening by your actions

Is this correct? Actuality vs. perception? Clarification please...I'm in a writing mood. 8)

A trick is "here pick a card. Look I found it." An effect is the motivation for finding a card. It's the psychological part that draws you in. It's what seperates a professional from an amateur.

I think that an essay on magic for the "next generation" is well overdue.

Develop your characters (#2)

As for the cups, you really don't need a story, but there are plenty out there to start with.

I read one essay on practice but I would like to hear another person's view of when you know you've practiced enough.

I've got one on the backburner regards scripting and its importance in magic, and I'll definately be covering the techniques I know and use for coming up with original scrpits and patter. Look out for an essay titled "If You've Nothing Nice to Say..."
